What does diversity mean to you?
Diversity means seeing a mixture of races, genders, orientations, identities, and lifestyles being included, hired, and working together without there being a majority of one race, gender, and/or orientation.
Why do you care about diversity?
I care about diversity because it is important to be heard and represented.
How can we build more inclusive communities?
First step is auditing your current community. Notice any missing faces? Does everyone look the same?
Next is to ensure your community, culture, and policies are not racist, prejudiced, etc.
Finally, continuing to do the work to educate yourself and identify where you can improve.
Who is your role model?
My son, Silas, is my role model. I admire how he moves, decides, and does so without restriction, inhibition, and care of what other people think. He reminds me to play more and care less.
What is one thing you wish you knew five years ago?
There is no game-plan. In doing, no matter how imperfect or unknown, you are led down your own path. It does not matter how someone else did something or how you are going to do something. Just take action and create momentum. The rest always works itself out.
Also, the only failure there is is not trying. Everything else is lessons learned and experienced gained.
What is your advice to a young person starting their entrepreneurial journey?
Your self-care is your priority and a major part of doing this work.
Where do you find your inspiration?
I’m able to tap into inspiration when I’m taking care of myself, away from the computer. It’s when I’m able to step away from what I’m doing and disconnect from technology that all the new ideas, creativity, and inspiration come pouring in.
